A primary election will be held in Union County on Tuesday, May 17, 2022.

Voters will cast ballots in the following contests: U.S. Senate (Rep. and Dem.), N.C. Supreme Court Associate Justice Seat 05 (Rep.), N.C. Court of Appeals Judge Seat 09 (Rep.), N.C. Court of Appeals Judge Seat 11 (Rep.), N.C. House of Representatives District 055 (Rep.), Union County Board of Commissioners (Rep.), Union County Board of Education District 06 (Rep.), Union County Clerk of Superior Court (Rep.), and Union County Sheriff (Rep.).

Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Election Day. Election result canvassing will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 27 at the Union County Board of Elections office.

Voters presenting in person, that due to physical disability, illiteracy or blindness require assistance, may receive help from the person of their choice, except their employer, union representative, or an agent. Also, any voter, regardless of whether they have a disability, may receive assistance from a near relative. Voting sites are accessible to all voters and curbside voting is offered to voters who are unable to enter voting sites.

Registered voters in Union County can vote in the primary for candidates of their registered party. Unaffiliated voters may choose the ballot of candidates for any party primary. The Libertarian Party does not have any primary elections because there are no contested Libertarian nominations for any office. Voters can update their name or address when presenting to vote, but may be required to vote a provisional ballot.
