Monroe, NC – The Union County Board of Elections will hold a meeting at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 316-B East Windsor Street, Monroe, NC 28112 to conduct a recount if a recount is requested by an eligible candidate under N.C.G.S. § 163-182.7(b) or (c). Only a contest eligible to be recounted under these provisions will be subject to the recount. Members of the public may attend the meeting, but space may be limited. If no such recount is requested, the meeting will be cancelled.

WHEREAS, General Statute 163-230.1(f) states that county board of elections shall hold public meetings commencing on the fifth Tuesday before an election at 5:00 p.m. for the purpose of action on applications for absentee ballots. If the county board of elections changes the time of holding its meetings or provides for additional meetings, notice of the change in hour and notice of the schedule of additional meetings, if any, shall be published in a newspaper circulated in the county at least 30 days prior to the election.

Limitation On Activity At Early Voting Sites

On September 10, 2024, the Union County Board of Elections passed a resolution limiting activity at early voting sites. The following rules were set to preserve public safety and allow unobstructed voter access.

  • No tables, tents or chairs are allowed on any paved surface including the parking lot and sidewalks.
  • Campaigners must park in the designated area at each site. Parking area will be marked with signage and tape.
  • Campaign signs are only allowed in the designated area at each site. Campaign sign area will be marked with signage and tape.

Notice of General Election

The statewide general election will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Election Day.

Voters will be asked to show photo ID when they vote. All voters will be allowed to vote with or without ID. Voters who lack ID can get one for free from their county board of elections. Find out more at ncsbe.gov/voter-id.

Board of Elections Hosts "I Voted" Sticker Design Contest

The Union County Board of Elections is excited to announce the return of the “I Voted” sticker design contest. Students may participate by creating an original design for the stickers that will be given out to voters during the November 5, 2024, General Election. 

“This is a fun and creative way for students to be involved in the election process and learn about the importance of voting at an early age,” said Kristin Jacumin, Director of the Board of Elections.
